Whats New
By jonb on 2/8/2006 10:40 PM

Wow has it been awhile since I posted!

Been busy, busy, busy...

Saturday we wired the basement of the house for internet and I got 3 wireless points set up now and hopefully get the 4th hooked up soon. Then the entire house will be wireless. I love this idea of having a house big enough to have an actual network. Hopefully by spring I get all the test and development servers set up as well.

I got alot of more to post soon but I gotta get back to the grind...

Bismarck cabs: Unsafe to maximize profits?
By jonb on 1/23/2006 5:29 PM

OK, so it’s been awhile since I posted. I have been super busy and just haven’t had the time although there are many things I would like to comment on. The following has been brewing for quite awhile and was revisited Friday night:

Bismarck’s cab service is unsafe. There I said it. Now I will explain why. By no means is it due to the drivers. As I have used the service more and more as bars and clubs offer free vouchers and I don’t like the insane fee the DMV charges to “store” your license during suspension periods, I have greatly appreciated this token of appreciation given by said bars and clubs.

The unsafe part comes in with a little something I like to call “collection cabbing”. This is where the cab company puts all the seats full to maximize profits. As anyone out of the local area may not know the solo cab company in town has nothing but minivans instead of the common cab sedan in most other areas of the country. I believe this is to maximize profits even more. Here is the situation: everyone leaving the bar is ushered into the cab whether they are using a voucher or paying themselves, said cab then drops off individuals at there respective places and returns to said club to repeat.

HELLO!!!

What if I was a potential stalker, rapist, etc waiting/lurking in the club shadows waiting for that single/alone female to leave all by her lonesome and get into this unsafe situation? All I would need to do is get myself a free voucher and join the ride and boom, I find out where said girl lives.

This threat also appears in other forms such as racial and other forms of hate crimes that have the potential for getting ugly.

So please do your part and one, refuse to participate in this action, and two warn others of its potentially dangerous outcomes.

Happy New Year
By jonb on 1/4/2006 6:52 AM

Happy New Year to everyone! Thanks for still coming around even though the updates are sporadic at times.

New Year's Eve was good. As most of you know I DJ'd out in Driscoll at Uncle Jesse's Bar. Had a great time out there with plenty of excitement.

Looks like Million Dollar Homepage is auctioning their last 1,000 pixels on eBay. I still wish I had thought of that idea first. Especially since the bid is already over $25,000 for the last 1,000 pixels...

Jason is broken, but not my Xmas shopping record!
By jonb on 12/21/2005 10:03 PM

Looks like Jason took a spill snowboarding. For some reason I just knew this was gonna happen. Well I hope your well on the way to recovery. By the sounds of your post you are...

As for me I got a big day tomorrow. Two presentations for really big stuff. Hopefully all goes well and both deals go well.

I also started and finished Christmas shopping tonight. Not a record but definitely a contender. From start to finish I hit 5 stores in 49 minutes. Still not as good as 2001 which was 37 minutes but that is hard to beat with more people to shop for and more traffic in town. I am kinda saddened though that I am getting soft in my old age and did this event more than 3 days before Christmas. Just don't have the same degree of urgency when you still have 4 days!

Well I'm off to get some last minute things wrapped up and then to bed.

X-mas parties and cell phones
By jonb on 12/19/2005 7:26 AM

Well we;ve succesfully made it through the holiday party season. Both my and the better half's holiday parties are over. Mine was at the Elks and hers we hosted at our new house.

On a different note, Tandra had her cell phone stolen about a week or two ago (which has since been returned) but we tried to activate an old phone we had lying around to no avail. I guess if they were made before a certain date they are no longer 911 compliant. I guess it gives me reason to finally throw out all those old cell phones...

By jonb on 12/8/2005 7:35 AM

Wow! I got so much to talk about and so many things I want to post on but absolutely no time…

Here are some highlights and I hope to be back full time blogging real soon.

• Finals for the semester in my online college classes
• Final projects for the same classes
• Working furiously on module updates and created gotdnn.com
• Unpacking
• Putting my office back together
• Bidding on a few projects for after the first of the year
• Etc, etc, etc

One thing I have been doing is catching up on a lot of blog reading when I have a few minutes and let me tell you I’m taking notes cause there is a lot I want to comment on…

Until next time

Hold the Train
By jonb on 11/17/2005 7:29 AM

Apparently my last post got a few of my readers anxious that me and my better half are getting married soon. Well, not that we aren't discussing the option, it is not gonna happen in the next few months.

I gave you all the challenge a few weeks back and so far the total proceeds are about $2.62 so we have a long way to our goal yet.

Anyway by "the next piece of our life" I meant getting the furniture in place and teaching the little dog Pedro that outside is the right place to poop.
